Why It’s Time to Get Rid of Basic B****

How to Take Control of Laundry

Today, I am opening up about what I consider the biggest challenge in my marriage: laundry.

What? Were you expecting something more juicy? Marriage does not have to be hard, but certainly there are obstacles you have to work through together, and our biggest obstacle is laundry. With the addition of our little Ginny and me teaching part-time as well as freelance writing coupled with my husband hating to fold laundry, it’s difficult for us to keep up with everything. The result? Full blown crazy panic attacks from yours truly when I go downstairs and see that a laundry tornado tore up the entire back half of our basement. Yes, I’m crazy, but this truly gives me enraged anxiety, making me feel overwhelmed with all of the other tasks and duties I have.

Instead of letting this continue to be a problem, I came up with a solution. As much as I’m sure my husband loves to take the brunt of my manic cleaning anxiety attacks, we figured out a much better solution.

November Fashion (part 1)

Welcome to November! I’m participating in another daily fashion theme challenge this month; be sure to link up with me on Facebook and Instagram to participate and share your outfits with me. You can check out my October looks here: part 1, part 2, and part 3. This week, the themes were:

  • Nice and toasty: I wore my blanket scarf from Frou Frou & Frill (so glad I came across this store! Trendy items and free shipping on all orders.)
  • Totally tasseled: I paired an orange and gold tassel necklace with my Bebe tassel bag that I use daily as my teacher bag.
  • No nonsense neutrals: Leopard is a neutral.
  • Layers: I’ve always wanted to try layering a sweater over a dress…so I did!
  • Wrist easy: When in doubt, grab all the bangles in site.
  • Boots: I wore my favorite two-toned boots and tried layers another way – under my dress. It’s a fun way to transform a basic dress.
  • Distressed darling: Word. I love distressed graphic tees.

So What About the Music Industry?

Guest post written by the talented and inspiring Jackie Loupakos, student at Columbia College in Chicago.

We live in a world that is rather demanding. I’ve noticed that a demand in any industry gets worse with the help of technology and all of its advances. Every little thing changes in an industry when you least expect it to. In the case of music, I find it difficult and quite exhausting trying to keep up with all the various forms of how people listen to music. Spotify, iTunes, GooglePlay, Amazon, Soundcloud; the list is endless. I am currently studying Audio Design and Production at Columbia College Chicago, along with a minor in Music Business. One of the many issues we talk about in my department is how the popular avenues for purchasing music always change.

Today, artists are speaking against streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. Picture this: You are an independent artist who has your work on one of the these sites. If someone clicks play on a song, you earn a cent or sometimes even nothing. Here is my problem with this: it’s just not fair.

October fashion (part 3)

I cannot believe October is nearly over; here is the final part of my October fashion challenge, and if you missed parts one and two, you can find them here and here.

For metallic miss, I chose the most comfortable pair of metallic heels paired with a black and white dress. On perSUEDEd day, I felt very autumnal in soft brown suede pants, an orange blouse, and camel sweater. I don’t know how this black fur-hooded cape has never been worn, but I was so happy to find this unworn cape in my closet; it must be at least 7 years old! Later that night I had a girls’ night and busted out my fun black and white printed slouchy blazer. I had to be creative on Hunters & duck boots day because I own neither; instead, I wore my favorite two-toned boots. Check out the rest of my picks for the rest of the theme days: oversized, teal, a fox in camel, you hit the TARGET, did you say d’orsay?, and draped in druzy.

Simply Healthy Deli Boat

When I find foods I like, I generally can eat them everyday. This works well for planning lunches for work but can get monotonous, especially over the weekend when I generally crave something more substantial. My go-to lunches are my Simply The Best Healthy Tuna Salad, cherry tomatoes with cottage cheese, or hard boiled eggs.

Over the weekends, when I’m off my normal scheduled routine, I am hungrier than usual. Because of this, I find myself wanting to go out and eat a bigger lunch, usually something not good for me. I’m able to resist, but if you find yourself getting off track at any point, check out my tips on how to get back on track. Anyway, this weekend my husband made these deliciously filling, completely healthy deli boats that satiated my desire to eat something bad for me…except they’re not!

Not only are these simple to make, these deli boats are pretty, soooooo tasty, and fun to eat. I seriously now prefer this to a traditional sandwich and it’s easier to eat and assemble it as a ‘boat’ (as I call it) than a wrap.
